What Kelly Wiglesworth actually said

Wiglesworth gave her own account on camera in October 2024, in the Vice documentary series Dark Side of Reality TV. She described one moment from the filming of Survivor: Borneo in 2000. A producer, she said, "threw a power bar on the ground, like, right at my feet." She said Richard Hatch saw it happen.

That is a single incident, described twenty four years later by the person it happened to. She did not describe a standing arrangement, a pattern of deliveries, or any agreement with production. The distinction matters, because the version of this story that circulates online is much larger than the version she told.

Where the broader allegation comes from

The wider claim does not come from reporting. It comes from Richard Hatch, who won Borneo, and who has been making a version of it publicly since 2015.

He raised it on a National Geographic Channel panel for the series The 2000s: A New Reality, in a Facebook post in May 2015, and in an interview Inside Survivor published on 1 July 2015. In those accounts he said Wiglesworth obtained food from production staff during the game, that he reported it, and that he stopped the show until, as he put it, those people were removed from the game. Some tellings name Sue Hawk as well. The accounts are not consistent on that point, which is one reason this page does not treat it as established.

Inside Survivor ran the interview with an explicit disclaimer that the views were Hatch's own. That disclaimer is worth carrying forward rather than dropping. What the article establishes is that Hatch made the accusation, not that its contents are true.

The removed crew member is a claim, not an event
