What Probst actually said in 2010

TV Guide ran a reader-question column in the issue dated 1 February 2010, weeks before Heroes vs. Villains premiered. A reader asked why Jonny Fairplay was not in the cast. Jeff Probst answered that the reason Fairplay was not there was that the season was called Heroes vs. Villains, "not Survivor Quitters."

That answer does two things, and most retellings keep only one. It confirms the omission was a decision rather than a scheduling accident. It also supplies a reason, and the reason Probst gave was Dalton's exit from Survivor: Micronesia. He did not cite the feud, and the quote should not be used as if he had.

The 2005 remark that became the word banned
