What she said, and when

In mid-August 2025 Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick posted an Instagram video answering Eliza Orlins, who played Survivor: Vanuatu and Survivor: Micronesia and had written a long post about her earlier that year. Us Weekly quoted the passage that spread: "Eliza tried to bury me about Donald Trump. Don't come at me with your political status when you're f***ing Jewish and your parents are 1 percent of the population of wealth." The video came down. Orlins had captured it, and the clip circulated from her accounts.

The day is not fully settled. Us Weekly and Entertainment Weekly both put the video on 17 August 2025. NJ.com puts it on 20 August, which is the day her statement to the Daily Mail appeared. Nobody corrected anybody, so this page says mid-August rather than pretending the record is tidier than it is. Every outlet reported the remark under a headline calling it antisemitic.

The apology, in her own words

She apologised in a statement given to the Daily Mail, and four outlets quote it identically. She said she "misspoke in a way that was abrupt, poorly worded, and offensive". She said the point she had been trying to make was frustration that someone who is Jewish was not standing up for their own community, and that the way she said it was wrong. She added: "I stand fully and unequivocally in support of the Jewish people. I condemn all forms of antisemitism, discrimination and hate."

That is her account of her own intent, and it sits here at the same weight as the criticism rather than tacked on at the end. The narrow, firm version of this story is that she made the remark and she apologised for it. The Asbury Park Press reported that she reposted that same apology on the eve of the Survivor 50 premiere six months later. This page describes a remark, an apology and a repost. It makes no claim about her character, which is not something a deleted video and a press statement can settle.

What Orlins said, and what she asked for

Orlins responded publicly and did not treat it as a misunderstanding. Us Weekly quoted her saying she was "not surprised by Stephenie's defamatory or bigoted remarks because I've known her for nearly 20 years". That is Orlins characterising the person, not a finding by anyone, and LaGrossa Kendrick's answer to it is the apology above.

Her concrete ask was about the season. She called on CBS to reconsider LaGrossa Kendrick's place in Survivor 50, saying she doubted this was "the kind of person they want representing their network on the national stage". After the season began airing, the Asbury Park Press quoted her again: "This story broke and was covered widely and CBS's response was not to speak out about how unacceptable this was, but to continue to prop her up." That is her reading of the network's silence, and it is worth separating from what the network actually said, which is nothing.

The season was already filmed, and CBS never commented

By the time Orlins asked CBS to act, there was no season left to change. Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans had finished filming before the video went up. It aired from 25 February to 20 May 2026 with LaGrossa Kendrick in the cast, and she finished tenth. That order of events answers the question most people are actually asking: the casting decision predates the remark, so her presence in the broadcast does not tell you what anyone at the network thought about it.

No CBS or production statement has been located. Entertainment Weekly noted in August 2025 that CBS did not immediately respond to its request for comment. The Asbury Park Press noted months later that a request sent to CBS Entertainment covering both producers and LaGrossa Kendrick went unanswered by press time. Silence is not a position and should not be converted into one. Nothing here says CBS defended her, cleared her, stood by her or declined to act, because no source establishes any of that. Two living Survivor players fell out in public, one said something she then apologised for twice, the other asked the network to act and got no answer, and the season aired as cast.
