Survivor 30: Worlds Apart
What Will Sims said to Shirin Oskooi on Survivor 30
On Survivor: Worlds Apart in 2015, Will Sims II told Shirin Oskooi on camera, "You have no family. You have nothing." Oskooi called him "evil" in her exit interview. At the 20 May 2015 finale Sims said he had apologised to her repeatedly. Oskooi said he never had.
Confirmed The on-camera exchange aired and is quoted verbatim in contemporaneous reporting. Whether Sims had apologised to Oskooi before the reunion is a direct factual dispute between the two of them, and nobody has settled it.
Will Sims II
Shirin Oskooi What the record shows
- Confirmed Sims directed a prolonged personal attack at Oskooi on camera, telling her among other things: "Nobody even likes you! I can guarantee right now there is nobody back in the United States that misses you... You have nothing. You have no family. You have nothing. God don't like ugly, and I'm exposing ugly to him right now."
- Confirmed In her exit interview Oskooi said the confrontation was not the first of its kind that season and that "nothing has been resolved." She described Sims as "evil."
- Disputed At the finale and reunion on 20 May 2015, Sims said he had apologised to Oskooi repeatedly. Oskooi said she had never received an apology from him before that night.
- Unverified No network finding, disciplinary action or legal proceeding of any kind has been located. Neither account of the apology has ever been tested by a third party.
- Unverified The often-repeated line that Sims refused to apologise at the reunion is not supported. What the record shows is a disagreement about whether an apology had already been given, not a refusal to give one.
What aired
Survivor: Worlds Apart ran from 25 February to 20 May 2015. Partway through the season CBS aired a sustained verbal attack by Will Sims II on Shirin Oskooi. The words are on tape and were reproduced in contemporaneous reporting: "Nobody even likes you! I can guarantee right now there is nobody back in the United States that misses you... You have nothing. You have no family. You have nothing. God don't like ugly, and I'm exposing ugly to him right now."
That is the confirmed core of this story, and it does not depend on anyone's memory. It aired. Oskooi went out in eighth place, the eleventh person voted out, and sat on the jury. Sims finished third.
Oskooi's account
Speaking to Gold Derby after her elimination, Oskooi called Sims "evil." Her word, in quotation marks, because it is a characterisation she made and not a finding anyone else has reached.
Two other things she said in that interview matter more than the label. She said this was not the first confrontation of its kind on the season, and she said that as of the interview "nothing has been resolved." TheThings later reported that she described a recovery period measured in months after the season aired.
The reunion is a dispute about facts, not a refusal
This is where most retellings get it wrong. The common version is that Sims declined to apologise at the reunion. That is not what happened. At the 20 May 2015 finale and reunion, Sims said he had already apologised to Oskooi, and said he had done so more than once. Oskooi said no such apology had ever reached her.
The distinction is not a technicality. A refusal is a choice made in public. What actually sits in the record is two people giving flatly incompatible accounts of whether a private conversation happened at all. One of them is wrong, and no third party has ever established which.
What was never established
There is no CBS finding, no disciplinary outcome, no investigation made public and no legal proceeding attached to any of this. Nothing was adjudicated because nothing was ever put in front of anyone with the power to adjudicate it.
So the honest shape of the story is narrow and still worth writing down. The attack is on tape and quotable word for word. Oskooi's reaction to it is on the record under her own name. The apology question is contested, permanently, and this page will not resolve it by picking the more sympathetic account.
