MrBeast and Survivor

Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, built the first real crossover between Survivor and a streaming megahit. Episode 4 of Beast Games season 2 left Beast City for Survivor's own beaches in Fiji, shot by Survivor's crew, with Jeff Probst on the ground and a $1.8 million private island on the line. Five US Survivor alumni were among the 200-person cast.

A crossover Survivor actually made

Reality crossovers are usually a logo swap. This one was not. For the fourth episode of Beast Games season 2, the Prime Video production packed up Beast City and flew to Fiji, and once there MrBeast handed the show over. In his telling it was literally their crew, their camera people, their everything, meaning Survivor ran the episode.

The result was a hybrid course that mixed Beast Games scale with Survivor's format, rebuilding real Survivor challenges including Get a Grip and the twisted net. Ten contestants competed for a private island valued at roughly $1.8 million. Ian Weber won it.

Getting Jeff Probst to say yes

Probst appearing on another network's competition show is the part nobody expected, including the man who asked. Donaldson said that the whole time, he did not really believe it was happening.

The trade ran both ways. Beast Games got Survivor's credibility and its beaches; Survivor got its format in front of the largest young audience on the internet, at the exact moment CBS was launching Survivor 50 and trying to pull a new generation into a 26-year-old show.

The Survivor players who competed

Beast Games season 2 opened with 200 players, and five of them had already played the real thing. Only Sue Smey lasted long enough to reach the Fiji crossover episode, which put a Survivor 47 finalist back on Survivor's beaches inside somebody else's show. The other four went out before the top 50.

Season 1 of Beast Games, which ran through 2024 and into 2025, had no US Survivor alumni in it at all.
