The twenty-second season features the return of legendary rivals 'Boston Rob' Mariano and Russell Hantz alongside a new twist where voted-out players can duel for a chance to re-enter the game.

Day one split the cast into two tribes: Ometepe and Zapatera. Two castaways arrived with prior seasons played, and four of this cast would go on to play again.
